CBSS endeavors to maintain the privacy of its visitors and users.
This Site has been designed to collect only information provided
by Administrators working on behalf of Colleges and Universities.
After creating an account on behalf of their College or University,
these individuals may choose to complete an online form requesting
information related to CBSS services. During this process,
they are asked to provide certain information including, Name,
College Employer, Business Address, Business Phone/Fax Number
and Business Email Address. CBSS uses this information to facilitate
telephonic or written contact with the Administrator in order
to verify that he/she is employed by a College or University
and, if so, to follow up on the request for information regarding
CBSS's services. CBSS does not utilize this information in
any other manner. It is not released or sold to any third party.
Any
information provided through this Site by individuals who are
not Administrators working on behalf of a College or University
will not be utilized and will immediately be deleted. This Site
does not employ the use of "cookies."
High School Students may receive information about
academic post-secondary educational opportunities from one of
CBSS's College or University clients. These clients utilize the
CBSS database to identify and communicate with students whose
achievements and aspirations indicate that they may match well
with educational opportunities provided by the College. This
contact is based on personally identifiable information voluntarily
provided by the student. If at any time a student wishes to "opt
out" because they no longer wish to be contacted by Colleges
and Universities utilizing the services of CBSS, they may do
so by writing to CBSS at College Bound Selection Service, 266-15B
Main Street, Medfield, MA 02052 or emailing us at info@cbssearch.net.
CBSS will not then share personal information about them with
any third party unless required by law. CBSS will disclose information
when required by law, such as in response to a court order, in
answer to a subpoena, or in response to a law enforcement agency's
request.
CBSS endeavors to share personally identifiable
information about students only with Colleges and Universities
that follow established and acceptable privacy practices, but
CBSS does not vouch for the actions of third parties.
In order for CBSS to authorize a College or University
to contact persons on its lists, the College or University first
must agree to observe certain list rental terms and conditions,
which will include privacy practices, fair information practices,
and guidelines for dealing with children. These terms include
the privacy protection guidelines and fair information practices
of the Direct Marketing Association ("DMA"), copies
of which are available at the DMA's office at 1120 Avenue of
the Americas, New York, NY 10036-6700, and at the DMA website
located at www.the-dma.org (including http://www.the-dma.org/privacy/index.shtml
and http://www.the-dma.org/guidelines/ethicalguidelines.shtml).
Colleges
and Universities are also required by applicable regulation to
strictly abide by any privacy policy which they may have adopted
and/or published.
Colleges and Universities must agree not to use
or otherwise disclose personally identifiable information about
children in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection
Act or any other applicable children's privacy law, statute,
rule, regulation or ordinance. They also may not permit the individual
look-up of information about a child on CBSS's lists except in
response to a properly issued subpoena, a lawful request from
a law enforcement agency, or a request from the National Center
for Missing and Exploited Children for purposes of locating a
missing child.
In order to assist its licensees in exercising
fair information practices, CBSS and its affiliates endeavor
to collect, use and maintain the personally identifiable information
contained in CBSS's lists in accordance with applicable privacy
laws.
